Overview

Tunheim Partners seeks interns who have the potential to learn, grow and develop their skills at the company while experiencing and contributing to our Collective Best structure and culture.

Intern Program Structure

  • Internships extend for a six-month period.
  • Intern job title is account assistant.
  • The account assistant position pay is $11 per hour.
  • Part-time interns must meet the equivalent of a six-month full time intern or 960 hours.

Candidate Requirements

  • Strong writing ability is a baseline requirement.
  • Familiarity/experience with media relations is highly desirable.
  • Other necessary skills/traits:
    • Initiative, demonstrated through work or extracurricular experience
    • Team-oriented; understanding/appreciation of collaborative work-environment
    • Resourcefulness attitude
    • Creative approach to assignments
    • Desire/ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
    • Ability to conduct thoughtful, thorough research
    • Comfortable asking questions and seeking input/feedback
  • Education/experience criteria:
    • Journalism/communications degree plus some communications experience outside the classroom
    • Degree in other area/major (English, history, business, political science, etc.) with evidence of commitment to pursuing a career in communications, i.e., published writing samples, hands-on communications experience, college course work
    • Part-time communications related employment experience

Intern Training and Development Program Philosophy

Tunheim Partners believes in the importance of providing extensive training to interns to lay a foundation and provide the skills necessary to move forward in the public relations field. Internships include an eight week training curriculum that will help develop aggressive, smart and creative media relations and public relations skills.

Intern Duties

  • Media list development
  • Research
  • Writing -- press releases, pitch letters, media kit materials, etc.
  • Placing media calls
  • Monitoring media coverage, compiling clip books and typing grids
  • Publication monitoring
  • Miscellaneous projects as directed by intern supervisors
  • Daily news huddle preparation
  • Fill-in for the front desk receptionist
