What is the TVA Internship Program all about?
TVA internships offer up-close, hands-on experience in various departments. Join the Communications & Government Relations team and you?ll become intimately involved in the work of the Corporate Communications department, participating in the day-to-day operations of the largest public power utility in America. You?ll attend meetings, observe many different problem-solving approaches, and gain the experience and knowledge that come from being supervised by some of the best in the field?all this in a paid internship that can jump-start your career. TVA interns perform real work, not just busy work.
Where do TVA interns work?
Corporate Communications interns work alongside TVA professionals in the following areas: Media Relations, Research, Message Development, Employee and Retiree Communications, Community Relations/Corporate Philanthropy, Account Management, Board Meetings and the Freedom of Information Act program -- all of which have some level of interface with all TVA organizations including corporate offices, customers, and nuclear, fossil, and hydro plants that comprise the TVA system. TVA operates 11 fossil plants, three nuclear plants, 29 hydroelectric dams, five combustion-turbine installations, a pumped-storage plant, and an environmental research center. Its facilities are located throughout the seven-state TVA region. The corporate offices are in Knoxville, Nashville, and Chattanooga, Tennessee. This particular internship will be based in Knoxville, Tennessee.
What projects do TVA interns work on?
TVA interns work directly in their fields of study. As an intern, you might be assigned to handle media tracking and research detail, news release writing, support the management of TVA's involvement in large community festivals, manage TeamTVA volunteer program events, assist with the TVA International Visitor program, assist with the development and implementation of communications strategies and tactics for internal clients across the company or key issues facing TVA, general administrative tasks and special projects as assigned. Tasks vary depending on the internship location, the business of the TVA site and skillset of the intern.
What is the TVA?
With facilities that generate the electricity to serve more than 8.5 million people, the Tennessee Valley Authority is the nation?s largest public power provider. This unique federal corporation provides affordable, reliable electricity to consumers in the seven-state Tennessee Valley Region. But TVA does much more than generate power. It also works to support economic development in the Valley and serves as an environmental steward of the nation?s fifth-largest river system.
