Arthur W. Page Society Presents Hall of Fame Award to GM’s Vice President of Global Communications

The Arthur W. Page Society has selected Steven J. Harris, General Motors' Vice President of Global Communications, to receive its prestigious 2007 Hall of Fame Award, the Page Society's highest recognition. Created in 1984, the annual award honors a leading senior level communications executive for career achievement and outstanding contributions to the profession which help advance the role of the Chief Communications Officer. Recipients are also lauded for involvement and leadership in their local communities. Harris will receive the award during the Arthur W. Page Society's 24th Annual Conference, September 16-18 in Southern California.

Roger Bolton, president of the Arthur W. Page Society, said the honors committee was unanimous in its selection of Steven J. Harris as the winner of the 2007 Hall of Fame Award. "Steve's exemplary career in Public Relations and particularly within the Automobile industry has been remarkable. As a leader in business and the community, it is my pleasure to present Steve with this award on behalf of the Page Society."

Automotive All-Star

Harris has spent more than 40 years in communications, the vast majority of it with U.S. auto manufacturers. In his current capacity as head of global communications at General Motors, he leads a team of nearly 600 professionals who provide a wide variety of communications services to GM's 280,000 employees and in support of GM's operations and brands in 12,000 communities and 200 countries around the globe.

Harris has been named Automotive News' All Star for automotive public relations eight times, most recently in 2007. In 2002, he was inducted into the Detroit Chapter of PRSA's Hall of Fame.

Harris has served on the boards of the Arthur W. Page Society, The Seminar, Institute for Public Relations, Foundation for American Communications and the University of Southern California Annenberg Center for Strategic Public Relations.

Hall of Fame Award

The Hall of Fame Award is the Arthur W. Page Society's highest recognition, honoring men and women whose esteemed careers have taken them to the summit of the public relations field. This award was created to honor someone who either had a significant career in the corporate world or who has done something significant that aided those who practiced in the corporate discipline. Their accomplishments include major contributions to the profession, a strong commitment to the Page Principles and a career filled with recognition by their peers.
