International Experts Lead 2002 Spring Seminar Agenda, “Globalization: Stop or Go?”
Mar 09, 2002
The debate about globalization reveals many complex facets. But one thing is certain: communications is at the heart of the matter. At "Globalization: Stop or Go?," this year's Spring Seminar scheduled for April 4-5 at the New York Palace, our keynote speaker is Jeffrey Garten, former undersecretary of commerce for international trade, author of "The Mind of the CEO," and Dean and Beinecke Professor in the Practice of International Trade and Finance at the Yale School of Management.
Dr. Garten will draw on his extensive background in business and international commerce to set the stage for the conference theme, "Globalization: Stop or Go?" In 2001 he published The Mind of the CEO, in which he draws on interviews with 40 top CEOs to describe the challenges and issues facing corporate leaders, including how to expand the leadership role of CEOs on the world stage and create a world environment in which everyone can prosper. Garten also writes a monthly column for BusinessWeek on major global business challenges and has written many articles. His Ph.D. and M.A. are from Johns Hopkins University.
Noted psychologist and cultural anthropologist G. Clotaire Rapaille has gained a reputation for his approach to understanding and communicating in the global marketplace. Rapaille looks at the most basic levels of relating to messages and products--whether it is to a particular word or association--and builds an approach to marketing that is unique and effective. He is a stimulating and engaging speaker who draws on the work of great scholars, put in the perspective of practical business needs.
Rapaille has written more than ten books and has taught at many universities and institutes, including the Sorbonne, UCLA, St. Ignace (Belgium), Esade (Barcelona), New York State University (Buffalo), and Geneva University (Switzerland).
On Thursday evening, 2001 Hall of Fame inductee Kurt Stocker will deliver his lecture at the awards dinner. The Distinguished Service award will recognize the late Patrick Jackson and his contributions to the profession. And, the first annual winners of the Business School Case Writing Competition will also be announced.
