Aug 17, 2001
A longtime leader in the public relations field, Kurt P. Stocker has been selected as the Arthur W. Page Society's 200l Hall of Fame nominee. Stocker will become the 16th member of the Hall of Fame, which honors leading practitioners for career achievement and outstanding contributions to the profession. He will be formally inducted into the Hall at the Society's Annual Conference in San Diego on September 24.
In making the announcement, Page Society President Jim Murphy said Stocker has had a distinguished career that spans all aspects of public relations, having held senior positions in the corporate, agency and academic worlds. He is recognized, Murphy said, for his expertise in areas such as crisis management, employee communications and professional development.
An associate professor at the Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism's Integrated Marketing Communications Program, Stocker served as director of Graduate Public Relations where he has counseled students entering the public relations profession. He is the principal in his own consulting firm serving large corporate and privately held organizations.
Prior to joining the Northwestern faculty, Stocker was chief corporate relations officer for Continental Bank Corporation with responsibilities for the company's marketing and public relations communications in addition to industry and legislative relations. He also served as senior vice president of corporate communications for United Airlines and senior vice president of the Chicago office of Hill and Knowlton.
A member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Corporate Public Relations, Stocker is widely published with books and articles on public relations, crisis communications, mergers and acquisitions, employee issues and organizational management. He is currently preparing a book that will document new data and insights into the costs and causes of crisis.
Stocker is chairman of the New York Stock Exchange Individual Investor Advisory Board and co-chaired the SEC Summit Committee on after-hours trading. A past president of the Arthur W. Page Society, he is a board member of the Chicago Children's Museum, the Judd Goldman Adaptive Sailing Foundation, and Urban Gateways. He also served as Commodore of the Chicago Yacht Club.
When Stocker is inducted into the Society's Hall of Fame, he will join a distinguished list of professionals that include John H. Page, Allen H. Center, Scott M. Cutlip, Ph.D., Hale Nelson, W.
