Senior Counselor

Roger Bolton is a senior counselor to APCO Worldwide, a leading global public affairs and corporate communications consultancy. He serves on APCO's International Advisory Council (IAC), consisting of former senior leaders of government, academia, business and nonprofit organizations, who work with APCO staff to counsel clients on a broad range of issues.

Mr. Bolton is also the president of the Arthur W. Page Society, a membership organization for chief communications officers of major corporations, dedicated to advancing the management policy role of the CCO.

Previously, he served as senior vice president of communications at Aetna, a $25 billion provider of health care coverage and other employee benefits, with responsibility for public relations, public affairs, internal and executive communications, advertising and brand management. He also chaired Aetna's Council for Organizational Effectiveness, a group of senior executives responsible for helping the company achieve high performance through culture change.

Mr. Bolton began his career as a newspaper reporter before serving as press secretary and staff director for U.S. Rep. Clarence J. Brown of Ohio.

He was director of speechwriting for the Reagan-Bush re-election campaign and then served as assistant U.S. trade representative for public affairs in the Executive Office of the President. He also was a special assistant to President Reagan in the White House, with responsibility for the president's relations with American business.

The U.S. Senate confirmed President George H.W. Bush's nomination of Mr. Bolton to be assistant secretary of the Treasury for public affairs and public liaison in 1989.

Finally, he served as director of corporate media relations at IBM and director of communications for the IBM server and software groups immediately before joining Aetna.

He is a journalism graduate of The Ohio State University. His wife, Lynne, is an actress. They have three children.
